I have learnt to never slow play Aces. Always try to narrow the game to a two ways action round and if the flop looks good for you make a huge bet

even with 51 for seats for 50 - it's not good to fold AA - you may never see another hand and get blinded out before someone else.

the Phil Helmuth book talks about 29 players in a pay 28 tourney and he started betting 5K without even looking at his hand. He took the blinds and the chip lead by doing that 20 times without being called. Other folks got blinded out with his bets. He finally got called just as he caught AA and i think he went on to win the tourney.

I agree with one more. I almost always go all in with pocket aces. That way you force almost everyone out. Sometimes you lose, but most of the time you win. If people are allowed to call cheaply your chances of losing a good opening hand increase dramatically.

Post subject: Strong in entry fee tourney, but questionable in home games

The reason AA gets knocked in home games so often is that the relative drawback of losing 20-30 bucks while staying in with questionable hands hoping for the flop to hit is small compared to spending real money (Say 3-5 hundred) to enter a real tourney. If you think of it logically ALL pair under cards should be played cautiously (granted the higher the pair the more secure you can be). You have 2 of 4 cards in your hand that can better your hand so your looking for trips 2/50 with a very slim shot at a straight or a flush and worse odds of winning if the board pairs (increasing the likely hood of an opponent having trips). Where as if you are holding suited connectors your options post flop increase dramatically... you have a 3/50 shot at catching a card that improves your hand 2 cards to a straight and flush.

Well in my opinion pocket aces are the hardest cards to play. When youre slowplaying AA and the situation on table looks dangerous its soooo haaard to fold it, for me... I never folded AA, thats why i was beat so many times. So Im trying to raise minimum 8xbb and if everyone folds... its sad, but im still alive Razz

Here my opnion on rockets. Yes they are the best starting hand but that is what you have to remember, they are the BEST STARTING hand. Once the flop hits it is fair game for anyone. I think it is stupid to slow play AA because then the big blind gets in free with rags and could hit 2 pair with them. ALWAYS raise with AA or it will kick your butt in the end. I usually try to raise enough that then either ill collect the blinds or someone will push the rest and it will be a race. And hopefully that other person has AK or something because if they have a pocket pair, your odds arent as good to win. Bullets are awsome to look at but deadly if played wrong Twisted Evil

Onemore is partially correct.
For example look at the situation below.
Riverruss wrote....
Sat to WSOP 5 left 4 get seats.
Blinds just increased to 4K/8K
BB You $150,000
seat 1 $25,000
seat 2 $120,000
seat 3 $14,000
SB seat 4 $90,000

seat 1 pushes ai,SB raises to $90,000 you have AA.
with 2 small stacks & the chance of losing $90,000 chips with just one player to bust to get your seat, playing AA in this position would be plain stupid because your almost certain to be able to fold into the seat without risking your stack.

I would agree with you if you were at risk for all your chips and could be eliminated, however with AA against any individual hand you are at least 4 to 1 to win. The odds of your aces not holding up against at least one of the shorter stacks is so slim that you almost cant fold. That said, if the SB beats you he more than likely eliminates the short stack. Say you lose to both players, u still got 60k in chips and a pretty decent shot that another player will be eliminated. Assuming seat 1 triples up, he would still be the first player to be blinded off.

To at least paraphrase the great Doyle Brunson: 'A-A is a fine hand to win a smal pot or lose a big one !!'

With Doyle's advice firmaly in mind, I now try and get one-on-one as quickly as possible from any position. Did not say this was correct way to play but it is what I do.

I can think of a time to fold preflop with pocket rockets. If you are playing with say 9 other people who you know well. You get Aces. Your friend goes all in. You know that they would only go all in with pocket aces based on a conversation they had with you earlier. Knowing this you realize the value of your hand has gone down. Your other friends based on previous games have only called on pairs and good connector cards. Everyone goes all in. In this situation it would be a good time to fold. It is a rare situation, but nevertheless it is a reasonable time to fold. Typically I would not fold a pair of pocket aces preflop and never have at least so far.
