Post subject: Where to play?

Hey out there to everyone. Where to start..... Well, I am fairly new, only been playing for half a year or so. I have recently started playin online alot though. Not "too" much for money yet though, I am trying to figure out which is a good site to play at. As it is now I mostly find myself playing at PokerRoom. I feel I like playing tournament games more than ring games I dont know why that is. Maybe because I know to play in a turney I can fork over 5 bucks and play for a while in a multi table as opposed to the thought of losing 5 bucks pre-flop lol. I also find that playing online somewhat lacks a little than it does playin for "real" where you cant really get a read on your opponents for tells etc. Anyhow, just thought I would post a lil somethin somethin here and see what kind of input I could get from others on how they feel about the various online rooms out there.

Thanks to all

Evening Mr Bungle,

It's kinda lonely on the forum - just like the Freeroll tourney - not a lot of enthusiasm about so I'll comment, as I so often do.

I don't know what it is about tournaments - is it the value of playing for 5 hours in the hope of winning a big prize? They are good fun and you come across all sorts of characters. If I had a tourney story it would be missing the PartyPoker IV ($9000) cruise by a river card in the 6th hour.

I took part in a $36 single table satellite to win a $250 entry to the big game (why pay for entry to the big game if you're good you should win it). So the big game starts at 7pm and 1400 people are playing for 30 $9000 cruises (WPT entry, a week long paid cruise and flights). Slow start as is often the case, kept it tight played the good cards when they came. Started to bluff mid tourney and picked up some good pots - most people had me down as a player that only played good cards. Lost a major hand with a full house as my opponent had a bigger house, not much you can do about that and difficult to get away from. Played my way back from short stack to a really nice position of above average chips with 100 players left (70 players really as all 30 went on the cruise).

Five and a half hours into the game I'm dealt JJ. Blinds are killing people. I call the big blind and the flop comes J610. Obviously I'm excited at the prospect with the nut hand at this point. I raise it up, and am delighted to be re-raised - I go allin. The allin is called and the final cards come out. I've been called allin by AJ who figured as he had top pair he had me beat. This was a huge allin because he had slightly more than me and I was above average. Turn and River come out in quick succession - K, Q. It was a surreal moment when the chips went in the other direction. Out to a runner runner straight which was the only thing that could have saved him. Had I won that pot I could have left the table and clicked the away post blind button and I'd have made top 30 for sure. As it was he went on a cruise making 23rd in the end.

I went off tourneys for a while after, moving to cash games at different poker rooms. In part to write reviews for the site. Coming back to your point about where to play - most people start in the bigger rooms - Party and Pokerroom, and indeed stay there due to the choice and variety of competitions and poker games. I chose to seek out new experiences and they sure are varied. Playing Golden Palace was and still is hugely entertaining due to the fact that it's a casino first and a poker room second so the players are more gamblers than poker pros. That's not to say they are all bad players they aren't but you always feel you've missed something if as in the experience described in my detailed review of them for this site your pushed $200 in against two people holding nothing more than a high card! Mind you don't expect anything different when they catch good cards either.

I do feature a mix of main stream and smaller rooms. Everest are notable because of the lack of USA players - which makes play very different. They also focus on low value games so can be good for newcomers.

Anyway, enough of my ramblings - lets see if anyone else has any war stories, or is it just that the wins are far easier to forget ? Also as the topic is experiences of other rooms feel free to post those.

Good luck my Bungle.

Be fair, a running pair of Aces would have saved him too. Smile

Bad beat, man, bad beat.

Thanks for pointing that out Origami....lol. I was focussing on the $9000 Cruise and ticket to the big Multi Million WPT tournament riding on that turn and river. I had my passport out of the drawer and was putting things in my suitcase!

I've started playing at Poker4Ever and Poker.*** and have learned to like them both. I had sworn off playing at new sites and just stick to Absolute, Stars and Titan, but I'm glad I broke down and followed some forums to the two other sites.

I have had a similar experience where I was holding the nuts and I had to call an all inner knowing if I would sit out I would make the top 10, which was paid.

When it happened to me I went blank for like 30 seconds straight. I know exactly how you feel bro.

Poker.*** has to be my favorite. I do agree that finding a casino/poker room is good because of the money that is tossed around.

When choosing a pokerroom trust and security is the first 2 things for me..

So here goes :

Paradise poker
Pokerplex
Pokerstars
WilliamHill

And by the way, keep your ass away from any Prima-pokerroom !

I have over 100 sites, Mansion Poker is a good one right now. Do you like Prima sites? Then Dream Poker is the best right now, that will change though as someone else will start offering better promos. Do you like ipoker sites, like Titan, BetFred, etc? Then Poker770 is the best choice for now. However both Titan and CD Poker are good for private freerolls such as the one this forum hosts from time to time. Cake Poker is starting out with great promos. CanBet has $500 freerolls Sat & Sun. Bet Royal (BossMedia) has good money added small buy-in events sometimes as well as occasionally good freerolls. NordicBet has promotions sometimes with freerolls with very large prize funds.
