Post subject: Mucking

During tournament play if all players have checked to the river , do ALL the players have to turn their cards face up? If I muck my cards can the dealer turn my cards over for all the other players to see??

the winning hand was shown and therefore I had mucked my cards and she took them out of the muck pile and showed everyone. Was she right to do so?

She was not right to show your cards. The only time you have to show your cards is if you get to the river and are called. In this case everyone checked. You may have been first to show in which case you would have, but as someone else already had a better hand you are under no obligation to show yours. Indeed generally you wouldn't show because doing so simply gives information away, and it's all about information.

If I'm right, I believe the only one that has to show is the person who bet/raised last, correct? Unless of course you have the winning hand.

by mucking you forfiet your hand.. ie saying i lost, what you lost with is irrelevent.. the only hand that matters is the winning one unless challenged

I might be wrong but if you called the last bet on the river the winner can ask to see your cards. It isn't polite but perfectly legal.

you dont ask to see someones cards...basically follow this rule of thumb, you must show your cards to take a pot....other than that, you are not obligated to

Correct quincy. If you lose after the showdown, you can muck them or show them. it is up to you.

On line most sites have an automuck feature, if you check this your cards will be mucked for you.

You can fold your cards if someone else has shown their cards and their cards beat your cards. If a player at the table wants to see folded cards, they do have the right to ask the dealer for a look at the cards, but once the cards are mucked, the dealer will not show your cards.
