Post subject: raising

In our home game there is an argument to what a player can do during a raise. The questions is after a player calls a raise and grabs come chips and counts them out in front of him is he allowed to go back for more chips or is he only allowed to raise any amount within the range of the chips he originally grabbed?
Example: I call raise I grade a stack of 800 in chips and count that out. Am I allowed to grade more chips to add to my raise or am I only allowed to raise at the max the 800 I originally grabbed?

You call raise then regardless of how many chips you initially grap and count you can put more in. The issue here is around were they put in the pot or not? If you counted out 800 and put them in then said "wait I'm not finished" or similar then that's not allowed.

In your example the person said raise, made no comment on amount, didn't put the chips in but merely counted out 800. If this player decides to put 1600 in, then he can given his actions.
