Post subject: what card is the kicker

THe rules ive read say the kicker is the card not held in common, but can the kicker be the 6th card? if two hands are exactly the same

Hi - the kicker won't matter if the best hand is made up of the same top 5 cards for both players. So if the community cards were kkAA10 and the respective players hold k6 and k2 then the pot is split as both players have kkkAA.

Alright, that scenario has a full house. What if the flop comes (Q Q 2 9 8) and player one has (Q 5) and player two has (Q 7)? This happened to me but the kid i was playing with said that he won because he had the higher kicker and that "you cant play the board and your hand at the same time." Please help, thanks.

Dear Guest,

In the situation you outline here the hand would be a tie. Best 5 cards are QQQ98 which you both have. The kicker is irrelevant in your example.
