I am BB (0.50cent) and dealt 4cKs...2 callers and I check...flop is 4c2s9h. I Have Paired 4's. No raises. everyone checks and look to be limping? I have 5 outs (trips or 2 pair) - 20.4% to win?
As the last person to act would you;
(a) check
(b) raise hard to get the pot
I am tempted to raise hard here due to being in good position plus with two players still in i have a good chance they would fold, if they had something they would have raised, but my head is telling me i should check to see what the turn brings up as ive got a 10.6% chance that i will hit one of my cards on turn.
How would you play this? I know a true decision would depend on stacks, read of the table etc etc. Lets just say for arguments sake that everyone is evenley stacked and that ive just joined the table and have no read on anyone. |

It's not as clear cut as that. You have other options than bet hard or check. If you bet hard it'll look like a steal and if you check you're 4's (which at this point you think are probably good) are likely to be beaten by card catchers.
I'd make a medium bet say $2. If the other players really have nothing they will fold. If they are sitting on a monster they'll raise and you in turn fold. The normal or medium bet in this position suggests confidence or a partial hit (which you have) and should be enough to dissuade the card catchers.
Large bets at this stage will never be profitable in any case based on pot odds. The pot only contains 50c*3 + small blind = $1.75 so if you bet large, say $10, then you're taking a hell of a risk against hidden trips or overpairs for only a 15% return on your bet. Long term (and probably short term also) that will be a losing strategy. |

| You're in the BB and the flop i down? You are not the last to act. You are first to act and i agree a medium bet. |

| maybe medium bet.. but it's not a situation for risk.. you have medium pair with second best kicker.. i'll do a medium bet, if i'm reraised i'll fold |

You are either first or second to act and you have second pair. A minimum bet or a check is the correct play here. If someone raises the chances are that you are probably behind and it would be wise to fold.
A medium bet commits you to a pot that you are likely to lose if anyone calls. |

| Before I even thought about betting I would immediately demand to know what the hell a 4c is doing on the board when I'm holding one myself! |
