what is the official WPT ruling if 1 player 'accidentally' looks at another players cards? This happened at a game we played the other night. where 1 player picked up someone else's cards after the deal. We collectively decided, not knowing what the official rule was, to call a mis-deal and redeal the whole hand. I had pocket Q's though and didn't think this was fair.
Is there anywhere online to see the WPT official rule book?
Thanks! |

That's definitely a mis-deal, redeal situation so you did the right thing. I'm not aware of the WPT rules being posted online. I can't speak for the WPT but in some tournaments you would be disqualified for picking up the wrong hand. Anyone know the official rule for the WPT competition ?
It's just unfortunate that you had QQ. |

| The way I've always heard of and played is for the player who saw the other players cards to fold. This is how I've always seen it played. You can't call it a mis deal cause then when u get a bad hand u can just look at someones elses and get a mis deal. |

| On the misdeal point I'm talking about picking up the wrong hand rather than looking at someone elses. You shouldn't be able to see anyone elses cards in any case as they play it close to the chest. I've not heard of the fold if you see others cards rule - may be the case it's just such an odd occurance I've not seen it. |

"I had pocket Q's though and didn't think this was fair. "
I bet if you had 2 7 offsuit you wouldn't have thought it was unfair. Probable best just to call it a misdeal and try to be more careful in the future. Some houserules (I stress houserules) say when you make stupid moves like that you've got to throw in the big blind in the pot before the next hand is dealt. Tournaments don't really have this kind of problem since the dealer clearly shuffles the cards in front of people and each individual was paying attention. I would guess in a tournament situation it would be considered cheating and expulsion from the game.
It seems a lot of the official rules for the WPT are constantly changing. I noticed a couple of sites offer WPT official poker rules book for $7-$20. I'm sure you could find a better price by looking for a couple minutes. FYI the WPT rulebook is ~134 pages. |
