Welcome to the forum.

The holder of Q 10 wins in your scenario because the winner is always the person who can make the best 5 cards from the two they hold and the five community cards. Both have a pair of queens so we look to the second card called the 'kicker'. Best 5 for the holder of Q 10 is Q10986 which beats Q9876.

I made a lil mistake. Actually the commutinty was a
4,6,7,9,Q

one had a Q, 5
one had a Q, 3

My question is, is the winner determined by the kicker or is it a split pot?

and thanks for the welcome..... Very Happy

Good question Bigjdog,

This is a split pot because the best 5 cards are QQ976 for both players. You don't move on to look at the 6th or 7th card.

The most common example of a split pot is where there is a pair on the board and two players hit a second pair with the same card. This gives 2 pairs each and if the kickers are lower then the next highest card on the board the pot is split. Cool

I got curious with the answer... given this example:

The community was a
4,6,7,9,Q

one had a Q, 8
one had a Q, 3

Is the winner determined by the kicker or is it a split pot?
