On the board is a king of diamonds, queen of diamonds, 9 of diamonds, 6 of diamonds. My two down cards are a 5 of diamonds and a 2 of clubs, the other guys hand is a 3 of diamonds and a 2 of spades. Both of us have a flush, but who wins? If you could email me back and tell me that would be great.
Thanks,

Hi Eric,
You won this with the 5 of diamonds as your flush KQ965 was higher than your friends KQ962.
This pot would only be split if your kickers were lower than the best 5 cards available. |

I've seen two different replys to the flush question. According to another post I read here farther down the list, if the first and second highest cards in the flush hands are shared then the pot would be split even if one player has a higher flush card than the other. However, it said that if one player has a flush card higher than the second shared flush card then that player would take the whole pot. Your post states that if one player has a higher flush card, no matter if it's lower than all the shared flush cards, than that player takes the whole pot. Is there a place where we can go and read up on this flush issue? Or is there a way to verify this point without question?
I was in a situation such as this last night. There were three clubs turned up with the king as highest card and two others under 10. I had Queen and nine and another player had 10 and 7. I was told that I had not won the pot but that we both had king high flush and pot must be shared. Please help clarify this in case it ever happens to me again.
Thank you!

Deedee,
The real answer is it depends on whose rules you play. The rules I set out here are based on the reality of playing the online game. Home games often have slight variants of the rules dependent on the opinion of the host !
In my opinion you won the hand and you would have won the hand if you were playing online

Thank you so much for clarifying that for me! If you happen to know, can you tell me what the official ruling would have been had it been on the World Poker Tournaments televised? I don't remember actually seeing that situation come up when I've been watching
Again... Many Thanks!

| I believe it would be the same as the online game (many of the WPT players are online tournament winners). I have never seen a flush split pot where the players 5 cards to the flush are different. |

I have yet to see a place where they rule this a split pot. I would say they were just plain wrong. Be it Holdém, Stud, Omaha, highest legal hand wins, even if it's to be decided on the 5th card.
Good luck DeeDee |
