Post subject: Game flow

Again, a nice easy couple of questions regaurding game flow. First, during the initial betting round (after receiving 2 cards), if no one has raised, and the act has passed by dealer (who checked) and the act is now to the small blind, he/she only needs to reach the amount totaling that of the other players, corect? eg - small blind equals 10 bucks where as every one else needed to put in 20, that player only needs to throw in $10 more to continue? Atleast, the way I understand it.

Secondly, once the flop is layed (and betting is equalized), the next act would be the small blind (if he/she stayed in) or sequentially to the left if they HAD folded?

Last of all, during the 1 on 1 showdown, are both blinds still used (being dealer in the big and opponent in the small)? and given this is correct, who is the first to act after the flop? - There is very little information on gmae flow during the showdown that I have found; anymore info, links ect. on game flow during the showdown is thanked in advance.

Thank you...

Hi Narcan - welcome to the forum.

I should start by saying that you are correct as regards gameflow. You don't find much on this part of the game and when I get the time I intend to write a chapter or two on the subject if gameplay and the blinds. It's an omission on my part as 'table position' is the second most important aspect of the game (way more important than the cards you are dealt). I discuss just about everything else, with picture examples, in the Poker Help box on the left hand side.

Your understanding in the first and second paragraph is absolutely correct.

When you get down to 'heads up' play (1 on 1) you do still have the big blind and the small blind. Often these are large because it takes time to get down to the last two players. The dealer is always the small blind and is therefore first to act. This is the only time in a Texas Holdem game where the dealer acts first.

Keep your eye on my Poker Help section as I will add to it at regular intervals. Once again thanks for your question.
