I was in a game of no limit and the blinds were 400 /800. I was in BB and there was one raise of 2800 to go and it was on me to bet. I called raise. Now I had 800 in and add the 2000 then I told them I raise 1000 more but they said that the rules are that I had to raise two times the raise before me. Now are they right that a I had to go two times the raise.
I did win the hand with set of As But that seem wrong to me.Anyone help me out here on this rule. |

| Thought so. With home games anything can happen. Usually the house owner makes up the rules if you get into a tricky situation. |

Actually the official rules are that any re-raise must be equal or higher than the previous bet or raise.
So if you are opening the pot with a raise, the min raise is the size of the big blind, as that is considered the first "bet". Similarly in any subsequent round the minimum bet is the size of the big blind.
In your case though the big blind was 800, somebody raised 2000 to 2800, now if you want to raise again, you must raise at least 2000, this will be the rule used at any casino or online poker room.
One of the best sites to brush up on official rules is roberts rules (ok I guess we can't post the address, but if you do a search for texas holdem rules, you'll find a few official rulebooks, they'll all confirm that rule) these are the standard rules most tournaments use as a base. |
