What is the accepted rule for showing your hand in heads-up play before declaring whether or not you are going to call or fold the other player's bet/raise? Does Doyle Brunson recommend this as a strategy to induce a tell from the other player? Is the hand still live? Please help me on this one?

Good question Shaman,
Its absolutely not allowed (from an ettiquete standpoint) and you've be thrown off the table if you did it more than once by accident. This counts as a fold, even if you had the winner and subsequently declared your intent to call.
